OUR STORY

Eau et Vie has been active in The Philippines since 2008. Prospective surveys have shown the need of drinking water in the slums of Cavite (suburbs of Manilla, the capital) and then of Mandaue (Métropolis of Cebu, second of the country).

The first program was launched in 2008, in the province of Cavite, in the Manila suburb.

Since then, the social enterprise Tubig Pag Asa (TPA) and the NGO Water and Life Philippines have been cooperating in 4 areas: Cavite, Mandaue, Cebu, and Tanauan.

Thanks to local partnerships with water operators (Maynilad Water Service, Metro Cebu Water District and Leyte Metro Water District) and with the local authorities, TPA connects households to the drinking water network, whereas Water and Life is responsible for hygiene-awareness activities, community strengthening and firefighting.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP MODEL

To ensure sustainability of the model, Eau et Vie opted for social entrepreneurship.

To implement its projects, Eau et Vie creates local water social enterprise to deliver safe running water in the target vulnerable urban neighbourhoods, often excluded from the city’s development plans.

The local NGO, ensures the smooth implementation of the projects, supporting the water enterprises financially and technically, and involving all the stakeholders (community, authorities, service operators…).

The long-term objective is for the social enterprises to reach viability to be handed over the relevant local stakeholders.

The head office of Eau et Vie in France acts as a support function for these two entities.
