OUR STORY

Eau et Vie launched its programme in Bangladesh in 2010 following pre-operationnel studies highlighting high local needs of WASH services.

The first water network was installed in 2012 in Dhaka while mobilising the community around the project through hygiene awareness, fire prevention and community building activities.

Following these good results, Eau et Vie decided to incubate news services to complete its integrated approach, launching solid waste management and sanitation pilot projects in 2014 and 2017 respectively.

In 2016, Eau et Vie extended its programme in Chattogram, the second largest city and first port of Bangladesh, inaugurating its first water network in 2018.

Today, Eau et Vie has reached 10,000 direct beneficiaries in Bangladesh and aims to scale up.

SOCIAL ECONOMIC MODEL

To ensure sustainability of the model, Eau et Vie opted for social entrepreneurship.

To implement its projects, the local water social enterprise SHOBAR JONNO PANI (SJP), was created in 2010 by Eau et Vie, to deliver safe running water in the target vulnerable urban neighbourhoods, often excluded from the city’s development plans. Eau et Vie ensures the smooth implementation of the projects, supporting the water enterprises financially and technically, and involving all the stakeholders (community, authorities, service operators…).

WATER AND LIFE BANGLADESH (W&L) is the NGO created by Eau et Vie in 2013 and registered at the Bangladeshi International NGO Office. It is responsible for developing training on hygiene and environment, fire prevention and community building. W&L also conducts surveys and measures the impact of actions on the living conditions of the inhabitants.
